Every prototype and concept car is very important for our Next Big Thing no matter how far from the real world it seems to be today. Companies like Jaguar, Renault, Nissan, BMW and Daimler are investing serious money in the future technologies - at these commercial and mechanical extremes potential of the electric powertrain could be demonstrated in full. Electrification allows you not only to survive during the coming Oil Shock, but accommodate wildest dreams from designers and redefine the meaning of personal mobility in 21ts century.
This particular concept car from Jaguar could actually be closer to the needs of the real world than it seems at the first glance.
REV or Range Extended Vehicles will be a very important transition point from CVs to EVs. Few companies now are working on a practical application of the principal demonstrated by Jaguar C-X75 - when electricity will be generated on board by turbine, which will be more efficient and environmentally friendly than gas or diesel generator - like GM Volt has. Important part is that that turbine could be run on natural gas. Lack of need for any mechanical connection between the turbine, batteries and electric motors placed in the power wheels will allow the most efficient design solutions.

"The most important message is in the headline - you can have now your own "Home Gas Station" while you have electricity bills paid. We have the technology to survive the Oil Shock and it will be soon on our roads in numbers."
